1. Airbags

What's wrong, in plain English: The airbag system — the part that is supposed to protect you in a crash. The front passenger seat weight sensor may crack and short circuit, failing to suppress the air bag as intended.

What could happen: An air bag that deploys unintentionally during a crash can increase the risk of injury.

The fix: Dealers will replace the seat weight sensors, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 28, 2024. This is a phased recall. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for these recalls are XHP and VHQ.

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2022 RDX.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized Acura dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 24V064000.
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Manufacturer hotline: 1-888-234-2138.
  5. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.

The panoramic roof frame assembly on my 2022 Acura RDX exhibits the exact condition described in Acura Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 23-004. while on vacation, upon entering the parked vehicle, the rear hatch window spontaneously shattered. No local place was open (Sunday) and the wait for a new window was days out so I had to drive two hours home with a makeshift windshield made from a tarp and duct tape.
