1. Fuel system

What's wrong, in plain English: Fuel lines, tank or pump. Fuel problems usually mean a leak, and leaks mean fire risk. The left and right fuel rails may leak fuel.

What could happen: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase risk of a fire.

The fix: Audi has notified owners, and dealers will replace the left and right fuel rail, free of charge. The recall began February 28, 2019. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Audi's number for this recall is 24DP.

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2017 A8 LWB.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized Audi dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 19V035000 (manufacturer code 24DP).
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Manufacturer hotline: 1-800-253-2834.
  5. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.

What's wrong, in plain English: Body panels, frame, doors, hood, trunk or latches. The seal around the engine compartment may come loose and contact hot engine components.

What could happen: If the seal contacts hot engine components, there could be an increased risk of a fire.

The fix: Audi will notify owners, and dealers will install a retaining plate to prevent the engine compartment seal from loosening. The recall began September 4, 2020. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 51G6.

3. Engine

What's wrong, in plain English: Engine problems range from stalling to fire. The turbocharger oil supply strainer can become blocked, causing wear to the bearings due to lack of lubrication.
