Moderate Campaign 07V151000 · announced 03/04/2007 (19 years ago)

1. Body / structure

What's wrong, in plain English: Body panels, frame, doors, hood, trunk or latches. ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, THE WELD BETWEEN THE SIDE STAND AND THE FRAME BOTTOM SECTION WAS NOT POSITIONED PROPERLY. THE LOAD-BEARING CAPABILITY OF THE SIDE STAND IS AFFECTED. AS A RESULT, THE SIDE STAND COULD FAIL.

What could happen: IF THIS OCCURRED WHEN THE MOTORCYCLE WAS PARKED, THE MOTORCYCLE COULD FALL TO THE GROUND AND INJURE A PERSON SITTING ON THE MOTORCYCLE OR A PERSON NEARBY.

The fix: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A NEW FRAME BOTTOM SECTION FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JUNE 1, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BMW AT 1-800-831-1117.

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2006 F650 GS.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized BMW dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 07V151000.
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Manufacturer hotline: 1-800-831-1117.
  5. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.
