High risk Campaign 15V882000 · announced 28/12/2015 (9 years ago)

1. Electronic Stability Control (esc)

What's wrong, in plain English: A vehicle part that may fail. Improperly drilled holes within the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) hydraulic unit may restrict one or more pistons impairing the DSC functions, including braking.

What could happen: Impaired DSC functionality may negatively impact vehicle handling and braking and increase the risk of a crash.

The fix: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the DSC hydraulic unit, and replace if necessary, free of charge. The recall began on February 8, 2016. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2015 I8.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized BMW dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 15V882000.
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Manufacturer hotline: 1-800-525-7417.
  5. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.
