1. Suspension

What's wrong, in plain English: Parts can break and cause loss of control. The front spring strut may contain an incorrectly manufactured proportional valve that can loosen, and result in strut failure and a loss of stability.

What could happen: A loss of stability while riding can increase the risk of a crash.

The fix: Dealers will inspect the strut production dates and replace the front spring struts as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 29, 2024. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2024 K 1600 B.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized BMW dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 24V165000.
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Manufacturer hotline: 1-800-525-7417.
  5. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.
