High risk Campaign 18V680000 · announced 28/09/2018 (6 years ago)

1. Suspension

What's wrong, in plain English: Parts can break and cause loss of control. The rear upper control arm pivot bolts may have been improperly hardened, possibly causing the rear upper control arms to break.

What could happen: If a rear upper control arm breaks, it can affect vehicle handling and control, increasing the risk of a crash.

The fix: All affected vehicles remain on dealer lots, therefore owner letters will not be mailed. BMW dealers will replace both rear upper control arms, free of charge. The recall began September 21, 2018. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2019 X6.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized BMW dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 18V680000.
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Manufacturer hotline: 1-800-525-7417.
  5. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.
