Source: NHTSA, updated daily. Last checked 2026-10-18. Recalls apply to specific VINs — run your VIN to confirm.
6 safety recalls, most serious first
1. Electronic Stability Control (esc)
What's wrong, in plain English: A vehicle part that may fail. Please see the recall report for a complete list of models and model years. The integrated brake (IB) system may malfunction and result in a loss of power brake assist or cause the Antilock Brake (ABS) and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) systems to not function properly.
What could happen: A loss of power brake assist can extend the distance required to stop the vehicle. Additionally, malfunctioning ABS and/or DSC systems can cause a loss of vehicle control. Either of these scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.
The fix: Dealers will replace the integrated brake system, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed between June and December 2024. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 or Rolls Royce customer service at 1-877-877-3735.
What to do
- Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2024 XM.
- Book a repair at any authorized BMW dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 24V104000.
- The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
- Manufacturer hotline: 1-800-525-7417.
- Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.

2. Body / structure
What's wrong, in plain English: Body panels, frame, doors, hood, trunk or latches. The tailgate panel may detach from the mounting structure due to improper adhesive bonding that occurred during manufacturing.
What could happen: A panel that detaches from a vehicle can become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.
The fix: Dealers will inspect and replace the tailgate panel as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 17, 2024. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

3. Seat belts
What's wrong, in plain English: Seat belts may not hold you in a crash. The seat belt system may inaccurately detect that passengers are belted, preventing the seat belt warning light from illuminating and possibly causing the supplemental restraint system to not deploy as intended during a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."
What could happen: A seat belt warning light that does not alert occupants of an unbelted seat belt or an SRS system that deploys improperly can both increase the risk of injury in a crash.
The fix: Dealers will inspect and replace the front seat lower seat belts as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 12, 2024. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

Purchased 2024 XM in July 2024. Since then all 4 rims have cracked. Quote by BMW to replace $2500.
