1. Brakes

What's wrong, in plain English: Anything that slows the car down. Treat brake recalls as urgent. THE INVOLVED VEHICLES WERE PRODUCED WITH HYDRAULIC BRAKE BOOSTER SUPPLY HOSES THAT ARE LOCATED TOO CLOSE TO THE ENGINE EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND MAY CHAFE AND DEVELOP HEAT DAMAGE DURING VEHICLE OPERATION. CHAFING AND HEAT INDUCED DETERIORATION OF A HOSE DUE TO DIRECT CONTACT WITH THE MANIFOLD MAY CAUSE THE HOSE TO WEAR. A SUBSEQUENT RUPTURE WILL RESULT IN PUMP FLUID LOSS.

What could happen:

The fix: THE DEALER WILL RELOCATE AND REPLACE THE BRAKE BOOSTER SUPPLY TUBE AND HOSE AS NECESSARY AT NO COST TO OWNER.

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 1984 B700.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized Ford dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 84V135000.
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.
