1. Lights

What's wrong, in plain English: Headlights, tail lights or turn signals may not work, making the car hard to see. The affected vehicles have a lighting control module (LCM) that may fail, resulting in a loss of headlights.

What could happen: A loss of headlights can reduce driver visibility and increase the risk of a crash.

The fix: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the LCM, free of charge. The recall began April 14, 2017. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 15S39.

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2005 CROWN VICTORIA.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized Ford dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 15V861000 (manufacturer code 15S39).
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Manufacturer hotline: 1-866-436-7332.
  5. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.
