1. Equipment

What's wrong, in plain English: A part or accessory supplied with the vehicle. In the affected vehicles, oil may leak from the PTO pressure switch onto a thermal blanket covering the exhaust.

What could happen: The leaking oil may soak into the thermal blanket covering the exhaust, which when combined with heat from exhaust, may result in an increased risk of fire.

The fix: Utility Truck will notify owners, and dealers will install a new pressure switch kit that moves the switch away from the exhaust system, free of charge. The recall began in June 2014. Owners may contact Utility Truck customer service at 1-254-857-8813.

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2010 F-450 SD.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized Ford dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 14V379000.
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Manufacturer hotline: 1-254-857-8813.
  5. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.
