2014 Freightliner Mt55 recalls & complaints
Source: NHTSA, updated daily. Last checked 2026-10-19. Recalls apply to specific VINs — run your VIN to confirm.
2 safety recalls, most serious first
1. Electrical system
What's wrong, in plain English: Wiring, modules, batteries. Short circuits can cause stalls or fires. In the affected vehicles, due to an incorrect calibration, the speedometer may display a speed lower than the vehicle is actually traveling.
What could happen: With the incorrect calibration, the driver may unknowingly exceed the posted speed limit, increasing the risk of a crash.
The fix: DTNA will notify owners, and dealers will update the instrument cluster software to the correct calibration, free of charge. Owners may contact DTNA at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA's number for this recall is FL-658.
What to do
- Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2014 MT55.
- Book a repair at any authorized Freightliner dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 13V640000 (manufacturer code FL-658).
- The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
- Manufacturer hotline: 1-800-547-0712.
- Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.

2. Transmission / drivetrain
What's wrong, in plain English: The parts that send engine power to the wheels. Failure can mean a sudden loss of power or the car rolling away. The software controlling the affected transmissions may improperly raise the vehicle's engine speed during downshifts without the driver's input.
What could happen: The increase in engine speed may result in unintended acceleration, increasing the risk of a crash.
The fix: DTNA will notify owners and dealers will update the hybrid transmission software, free of charge. The recall began on February 5, 2014. Owners may contact DTNA at 1-503-745-6910. DTNA's recall number is FL-657.
