1. Suspension

What's wrong, in plain English: Parts can break and cause loss of control. The front upper control arms may have inadequate welds near the control arm bushing.

What could happen: Inadequate welds may allow the control arm to separate from the bushing, compromising steering and increasing the risk of a crash.

The fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the left and right front upper control arms and realign the vehicle, free of charge. The recall began on May 18, 2016. Until the repairs have been made, owners are advised not to drive their vehicles. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, Ca…

What to do

  1. Do not drive this vehicle until the recall repair is done. The manufacturer has told owners to park it.
  2. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2016 SIERRA 1500.
  3. Book a repair at any authorized GMC dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 16V256000 (manufacturer code 42190).
  4. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.

  6. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.

3. Brakes

What's wrong, in plain English: Anything that slows the car down. Treat brake recalls as urgent. 3-liter engine, a 3.08-ratio rear axle and four-wheel drive.
