1 safety recall, most serious first
1. Steering
What's wrong, in plain English: If steering fails you can lose control of the car. Due to an incorrectly machined part, the motorcycle may have an excessive steering angle allowing the inner fairing to contact the rear brake fluid reservoir resulting in a loss of brake fluid. Additionally, the steering damper may be damaged.
What could happen: Loss of brake fluid from the rear reservoir would reduce brake performance. Steering damper damage could reduce the rider's ability to control the motorcycle. Either condition increases the risk of a crash.
The fix: Harley-Davidson will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the trikes and replace the fork stem bracket, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on December 2, 2013. Owners may contact Harley-Davidson at 1-800-258-2464. Harley-Davidson's recall number is 0152.
What to do
- Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2014 TRIKE.
- Book a repair at any authorized Harley-Davidson dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 13V491000.
- The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
- Manufacturer hotline: 1-800-258-2464.
- Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.
