1. Fuel system

What's wrong, in plain English: Fuel lines, tank or pump. Fuel problems usually mean a leak, and leaks mean fire risk. Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2018-2024 GL1800 (Goldwing), CBR600RR, and 2018-2019 CBR1000RR motorcycles. The fuel pump impellers may have been improperly molded, which can cause them to deform and result in fuel pump failure.

What could happen: Fuel pump failure can cause an engine stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.

The fix: Dealers will inspect and replace the fuel pump module as necessary, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed June 19, 2024. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-866-784-1870. Honda's numbers for this recall are KP8, KP9, KQ0, and KQ1.

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2018 CBR1000RR.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized Honda dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 24V113000 (manufacturer code KP8, KP9, KQ0, and KQ1).
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Manufacturer hotline: 1-866-784-1870.
  5. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.

The part has not failed yet. As soon as I received the recall notice and safety concerns, I stopped riding the motorcycle. I am filing a complaint because it has been two months, I have called the local dealership multiple times, and they are still unable to correct the issue. I am still required to make my loan payments and keep updated insurance on a moto…
