1. Engine

What's wrong, in plain English: Engine problems range from stalling to fire. An electrical short circuit may occur in the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve assembly, which can result in a loss of drive power.

What could happen: A loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash.

The fix: Dealers will replace the exhaust gas recirculation valve assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 28, 2024. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 260.

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2024 ELANTRA HEV.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized Hyundai dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 24V308000 (manufacturer code 260).
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Manufacturer hotline: 1-855-371-9460.
  5. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.
