1. Transmission / drivetrain

What's wrong, in plain English: The parts that send engine power to the wheels. Failure can mean a sudden loss of power or the car rolling away. The electronic controller for the Idle Stop & Go oil pump assembly may contain damaged electrical components that can cause the pump controller to overheat.

What could happen: An electric oil pump assembly that overheats increases the risk of a vehicle fire.

The fix: Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will inspect and replace the electric oil pump controller, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed starting September 7, 2023. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-37…

What to do

  1. Park outside, away from houses, garages and other cars — there is a fire risk even when the vehicle is off.
  2. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2023 ELANTRA.
  3. Book a repair at any authorized Hyundai dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 23V526000 (manufacturer code 246).
  4. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  5. Manufacturer hotline: 1-855-371-9460.
  6. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.

Moderate Campaign 22V632000 · announced 18/08/2022 (3 years ago)

2. Airbags

What's wrong, in plain English: The airbag system — the part that is supposed to protect you in a crash. The emblem on the cover of the driver's front air bag may not have been welded properly, which can result in the emblem detaching upon deployment.

What could happen: A detached air bag cover emblem may strike a vehicle occupant, which can increase the risk of injury.

The fix: Dealers will replace the air bag, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 14, 2022. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 234.

Voice activated calling no longer works without Hyundai's Bluelink subscription. Each time I say a command to "Call John Doe," the response is always, "Sorry, I don't understand. Please upgrade to Bluelink cloud assisted voice calling." This is a basic safety feature that should not be behind a paywall.

The engine mounts on this vehicle failed. Dealership and many others online have stated that this seems to be a reoccurring issue with the 2021-2023 generation of Hyundai elantras.
