1. Airbags

What's wrong, in plain English: The airbag system — the part that is supposed to protect you in a crash. The affected vehicles have a driver-side curtain air bag inflator initiator that may fail to ignite during a crash, preventing the air bag from deploying.

What could happen: If the air bag fails to deploy in the event of a crash, it can increase the risk of injury.

The fix: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver-side curtain air bag assembly, free of charge. The recall began on May 2, 2017. Owners may contact Infiniti customer Service at 1-800-662-6200.

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2017 QX30.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized Infiniti dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 17V143000.
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Manufacturer hotline: 1-800-662-6200.
  5. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.

2. Airbags

What's wrong, in plain English: The airbag system — the part that is supposed to protect you in a crash. The driver's air bag may unexpectedly deploy due to insufficient grounding of the steering components if an electrostatic discharge occurs and the air bag clockspring is broken.

What could happen: If the driver air bag inadvertently deploys, it can increase the risk of injury and a crash.

The fix: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will add sufficient grounding to the steering components, free of charge. The recall began March 26, 2018. Owners may contact Infiniti customer service at 1-800-622-6200, option 7.
