High risk Campaign 16V907000 · announced 16/12/2016 (9 years ago)

1. Engine

What's wrong, in plain English: Engine problems range from stalling to fire. The crankshaft or camshaft sensor may only work intermittently, causing the engine to stall.

What could happen: If the engine stalls, there is an increased the risk of a crash.

The fix: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the crankshaft or camshaft sensor connector, free of charge. The recall began February 8, 2017. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is S89.

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2016 COMPASS.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized Jeep dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 16V907000 (manufacturer code S89).
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Manufacturer hotline: 1-800-853-1403.
  5. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.
