2024 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 1500 recalls & complaints
Source: NHTSA, updated daily. Last checked 2026-10-19. Recalls apply to specific VINs — run your VIN to confirm.
2 safety recalls, most serious first
1. Transmission / drivetrain
What's wrong, in plain English: The parts that send engine power to the wheels. Failure can mean a sudden loss of power or the car rolling away. The spring U-bolts for the rear axle may have reduced strength due to improper heat-treatment, which can cause the rear axle to shift out of position.
What could happen: An axle that moves out of position can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
The fix: Dealers will replace the spring U-bolts, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 23, 2024. Owners may contact DVUSA customer service at 1-877-762-8267. DVUSA's number for this recall is VS3FEDERB.
What to do
- Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2024 SPRINTER 1500.
- Book a repair at any authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 24V517000 (manufacturer code VS3FEDERB).
- The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
- Manufacturer hotline: 1-877-762-8267.
- Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.

2. Brakes
What's wrong, in plain English: Anything that slows the car down. Treat brake recalls as urgent. The parking brake cable bracket welds may fail and disengage the parking brake. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 105, "Hydraulic and Electric Brake Systems."
What could happen: Parking brake failure can result in a vehicle rollaway, increasing the risk of a crash.
The fix: Dealers will inspect and repair the parking brake cable bracket as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 30, 2025. Owners may contact DVUSA customer service at 877-762-8267. DVUSA's number for this recall is VS3HALHAN.
