Source: NHTSA, updated daily. Last checked 2026-10-19. Recalls apply to specific VINs — run your VIN to confirm.
5 safety recalls, most serious first
1. Electrical system — software update
What's wrong, in plain English: Wiring, modules, batteries. Short circuits can cause stalls or fires. The Battery Energy Control Module (BECM) microprocessor may reset and cause the high voltage system to disconnect.
What could happen: A disconnected high voltage system can cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.
The fix: Polestar will notify owners, and the software will be updated by a dealer, or through an over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 23, 2021. Owners may contact Polestar customer service at 1-800-806-2504. Polestar's number for this recall is R10079.
What to do
- Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2021 POLESTAR 2.
- This recall may be fixed by an over-the-air software update. Check the car's screen or app before booking a dealer visit.
- The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
- Manufacturer hotline: 1-800-806-2504.
- Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.
