1. Wheels / tires

What's wrong, in plain English: A wheel or tire can fail while driving. The steel chain used to secure the spare tire to the underside of the vehicle may have been insufficiently welded.

What could happen: Chains that are not welded sufficiently can break and allow the spare tire to detach, increasing the risk of a crash.

The fix: Dealers will replace the spare tire carrier assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 14, 2023. Owners may contact Toyota's customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is 23TB06/23TA06.

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2023 SEQUOIA HYBRID.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized Toyota dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 23V468000 (manufacturer code 23TB06/23TA06).
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Manufacturer hotline: 1-800-331-4331.
  5. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.
