1. Fuel system

What's wrong, in plain English: Fuel lines, tank or pump. Fuel problems usually mean a leak, and leaks mean fire risk. These gasoline-powered vehicles have a fuel filter flange that may crack, allowing fuel to leak.

What could happen: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.

The fix: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the fuel filter flange for cracks, replacing the flange if cracks are found. If no cracks are found, a protective cover will be installed onto the filter flange. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began March 9, 2018. Owners may contac…

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2006 TOUAREG.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized Volkswagen dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 17V583000 (manufacturer code 20Ai).
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Manufacturer hotline: 1-800-893-5298.
  5. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.

While driving the vehicle it will slow down and will not accelerate even while pressing the gas. It may even cut off. I have to keep pushing the pedal maybe 3 to 5 times before it will accelerate. This happens even on the freeway. I don't drive it anymore because of fear I might have an accident.
