3 safety recalls, most serious first

High risk Campaign 21V682000 · announced 01/09/2021 (5 years ago)

1. Seat belts

What's wrong, in plain English: Seat belts may not hold you in a crash. The seat belt automatic locking retractors may deactivate early, which can prevent the child restraint system from securing properly. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

What could happen: An unsecured child restraint system can increase the risk of injury during a crash.

The fix: Dealers will inspect and replace the seat belt assemblies, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 13, 2021. Owners may contact Volvo Car customer service at 1-888-458-1552. Volvo Car's number for this recall is R10111.

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2021 V60 T6.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized Volvo dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 21V682000 (manufacturer code R10111).
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Manufacturer hotline: 1-888-458-1552.
  5. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.

2. Airbags

What's wrong, in plain English: The airbag system — the part that is supposed to protect you in a crash. The Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) control unit may not have been properly attached to the car body and may detach during a crash.

What could happen: A detached SRS control unit can decrease the performance of occupant protection systems such as air bags, seat belts, and high voltage battery disconnect, increasing the risk of injury during a crash.

The fix: Volvo Car will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, as necessary, tighten the SRS control unit mounting screws, free of charge. The recall began February 12, 2021. Owners may contact Volvo Car customer service at 1-888-458-1552. Volvo Car's number for this recall is R10068.

This car has bricked itself in my garage twice in as many months. It is a Plug in hybrid and is plugged into power the entire time it breaks.
