1. Electrical system

What's wrong, in plain English: Wiring, modules, batteries. Short circuits can cause stalls or fires. The software installed in the Vehicle Connectivity Module (VCM) may have an error causing the Telematics and Driver Support Systems to function improperly. As a result, the GPS will not provide location information to emergency personnel in the event of an emergency.

What could happen: If the GPS location is not provided to emergency personnel it can inhibit emergency response in the event of a crash or injury.

The fix: Volvo will notify owners, and dealers will correct the software, free of charge. The recall began December 26, 2018. Owners may contact Volvo customer service at 1-800-458-1552. Volvo's number for this recall is R39917.

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2018 V60.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized Volvo dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 18V800000 (manufacturer code R39917).
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Manufacturer hotline: 1-800-458-1552.
  5. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.

2. Seat belts

What's wrong, in plain English: Seat belts may not hold you in a crash. The flexible steel cable that connects the seat belt to the front outboard seating positions may fatigue over time, causing the seat belt to not secure the occupant in the event of a crash.

What could happen: An unsecured occupant has an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.

The fix: Volvo will notify owners, and dealers will replace the seat belt anchor cable for both front seats. The recall began December 10, 2020. Owners may contact Volvo customer service at 1-800-458-1552. Volvo's number for this recall is R10029.

REARVIEW MIRRORS DO NOT RETURN TO THEIR SAVED POSITIONS AFTER SHIFTING INTO REVERSE THEN SHIFTING BACK INTO DRIVE. THIS WILL COMPOUND OVER TIME AND SHIFT THE REARVIEW MIRROR POSITIONS LOWER AND LOWER. STORED POSITIONS ARE NOT AFFECTED, AS RECALLING A SAVED DRIVER SETTING WILL MOVE THE MIRRORS BACK TO THE CORRECT STORED POSITIONS.
