1. Wheels / tires

What's wrong, in plain English: A wheel or tire can fail while driving. ON CERTAIN HEAVY DUTY CLASS 8 TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH ACCURIDE ALUMINUM WHEELS, THE WHEELS WERE NOT PROPERLY PRE-STRESSED. THIS ALLOWS CRACKS TO DEVELOP OVER TIME.

What could happen: THIS MAY EVENTUALLY LEAD TO WHEEL FAILURE AND POSSIBLY RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH.

The fix: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE WHEELS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JUNE 30, 2005 OWNERS MAY CONTACT VOLVO TRUCKS AT 1-800-528-6586.

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2006 VH.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized Volvo dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 05V182000.
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Manufacturer hotline: 1-800-528-6586.
  5. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.

I PURCHASED A NEW 2006 VOLVO XC90 IN OCTOBER 2006. EIGHT TO TEN MONTHS I STOPPED FOR SOME GAS AND MY CAR WOULD NOT RESTART. I HAD IT TOWED AND THE NEXT DAY THE DEALER WAS ABLE TO START IT RIGHT UP WITHOUT PERFORMING ANY WORK SO I PICKED IT UP. ONE TO TWO DAYS LATER THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN AND I HAD IT TOWED AGAIN. VOLVO SERVICE HAD IT FOR A COUP…
