What could happen: Failure of the ball joint may cause separation of the socket and a complete loss of steering, increasing the risk of a crash.
The fix: Volvo will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the drag links, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. Volvo issued an interim notification to owners on October 28, 2015. Replacement parts are now available. Notices to owners were mailed on March 1, 2016. Owners may contact Volvo custom…
What to do
- Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2014 VN.
- Book a repair at any authorized Volvo dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 15V651000.
- The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
- Manufacturer hotline: 1-877-800-4945.
- Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.
