5 safety recalls, most serious first
1. Electrical system
What's wrong, in plain English: Wiring, modules, batteries. Short circuits can cause stalls or fires. The high voltage battery could catch fire when charged to full or nearly full capacity.
What could happen: A battery fire increases the risk of injury.
The fix: Owners are advised to take the following interim steps: Set the Target Charge Level feature in their vehicle to limit the charge level to 90%, charge their vehicle more frequently, avoid depleting the battery to 70 miles range remaining, park outside after charging, and do not charge the vehicle indoors overnight. What to do
- Park outside, away from houses, garages and other cars — there is a fire risk even when the vehicle is off.
- Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2021 BOLT EV.
- Book a repair at any authorized Chevrolet dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 21V650000 (manufacturer code N212345940).
- The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
- Manufacturer hotline: 1-833-382-4389.
- Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.
