1. Equipment

What's wrong, in plain English: A part or accessory supplied with the vehicle. Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2018 Sandpiper and Sierra recreational trailers. The Federal Placard may incorrectly indicate the recommended tire pressure to be 110psi, however, the actual tire pressure should be 95psi. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims," and these vehicles fail to…

What could happen: If the tires are inflated incorrectly to 110psi, it can cause premature wear of the tire, potentially causing a loss of control and increasing the risk of a crash.

The fix: Forest River will notify owners, and dealers will install a corrected Federal Placard, free of charge. The recall began on January 2, 2018. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-534-4574. Forest River's number for this recall is 03-0599.

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2018 SANDPIPER.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized Forest River dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 17V808000 (manufacturer code 03-0599).
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Manufacturer hotline: 1-574-534-4574.
  5. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.
