1. Engine

What's wrong, in plain English: Engine problems range from stalling to fire. The airbox backplate breather port may be blocked, allowing pressure to build up inside the crankcase.

What could happen: When the dipstick is removed while the crankcase is pressurized, oil may eject from the fill spout, increasing the risk of injury.

The fix: Dealers will inspect the breather port, and if the port is blocked, repair the blockage, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 14, 2026. Owners may contact Harley-Davidson customer service at 1-800-258-2464. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.…

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2026 FLHXL.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized Harley-Davidson dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 26V270000 (manufacturer code 0193).
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Manufacturer hotline: 1-800-258-2464.
  5. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.
