1. Steering

What's wrong, in plain English: If steering fails you can lose control of the car. Due to a manufacturing error, the gear box assembly may contain a loose ball bearing, which can result in a loss of steering control or steering lock-up.

What could happen: A loss of steering control or steering lock-up can increase the risk of a crash.

The fix: Dealers will replace the electric power steering rack, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 18, 2023. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is FFX.

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2024 PILOT.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized Honda dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 23V735000 (manufacturer code FFX).
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Manufacturer hotline: 1-888-234-2138.
  5. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.
