1. Engine

What's wrong, in plain English: Engine problems range from stalling to fire. The connecting rod bolts in the engine may have been improperly tightened, which can cause a loss of drive power and engine damage, possibly resulting in an oil leak.

What could happen: A loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash. An oil leak in the presence of hot engine components can increase the risk of an engine compartment fire.

The fix: Dealers will replace the engine, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 23, 2025. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 281.

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2026 TUCSON ICE.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized Hyundai dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 25V549000 (manufacturer code 281).
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Manufacturer hotline: 1-855-371-9460.
  5. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.

The "Consider Taking a Break" advisory comes on as far too often creating a dangerous distraction. The DAW system goes off numerous times during any trip. Many times within 10 minutes of stating out. the constant annoying warning telling me to take a break when I just did puts me on edge.
