High risk Campaign 24V057000 · announced 31/01/2024 (3 months ago)

1. Transmission / drivetrain

What's wrong, in plain English: The parts that send engine power to the wheels. Failure can mean a sudden loss of power or the car rolling away. One of the drive shafts may have been improperly heat-treated, allowing it to break under load and resulting in a loss of drive power.

What could happen: A loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash.

The fix: Dealers will replace the drive shaft, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 28, 2024. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC295.

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2024 NIRO EV.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized Kia dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 24V057000 (manufacturer code SC295).
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Manufacturer hotline: 1-800-333-4542.
  5. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.

High risk Campaign 25V024000 · announced 17/01/2025 (5 months ago)

2. Seats

What's wrong, in plain English: Seat frames, adjusters or child-seat anchors. The floor wiring assembly beneath the front passenger seat may become damaged, which can prevent the front air bags and seat belts from deploying properly or cause an unintended side curtain air bag deployment.

What could happen: Air bags and seat belts that deploy improperly or an air bag deploying unintentionally can increase the risk of injury in a crash.

The fix: Dealers will inspect, replace and reroute the floor wiring assembly, as necessary, free of charge. In addition, dealers will install wiring covers. Owner notification letters were mailed February 27, 2025. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC332.

I have taken the car to Brown-Daub Kia in Easton twice, on May 1, 2025 and May 30, 2025, requesting the safety recall work (SC332) be completed. Both times I have been told they are unable to complete the work because they are unable to connect with Kia in some way.

Emergency stop blocked by a piece of the bottom dash panel under the steering column. There are castings in the underside of the panel covering the steering column that prevent the right foot of a driver with a larger foot/shoe to operate the brake pedal.
