1. Transmission / drivetrain

What's wrong, in plain English: The parts that send engine power to the wheels. Failure can mean a sudden loss of power or the car rolling away. The electronic controller for the Idle Stop & Go oil pump assembly may contain damaged electrical components that can cause the pump to overheat.

What could happen: An electric oil pump assembly that overheats increases the risk of a vehicle fire.

The fix: Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will inspect and replace the electric oil pump controller, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 28, 2023. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-…

What to do

  1. Park outside, away from houses, garages and other cars — there is a fire risk even when the vehicle is off.
  2. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2023 SELTOS.
  3. Book a repair at any authorized Kia dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 23V531000 (manufacturer code SC275).
  4. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  5. Manufacturer hotline: 1-800-333-4542.
  6. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.
