1. Seat belts

What's wrong, in plain English: Seat belts may not hold you in a crash. The seat belt for the right side second-row seat may have been assembled incorrectly.

What could happen: An incorrectly assembled seat belt may not properly restrain the occupant, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

The fix: MMNA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the right side second-row seat belt and replace it as necessary, free of charge. This recall began June 17, 2020. Owners may contact MMNA customer service at 1-888-648-7820. MMNA's number for this recall is SR-20-002.

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2020 OUTLANDER.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized Mitsubishi dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 20V280000 (manufacturer code SR-20-002).
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Manufacturer hotline: 1-888-648-7820.
  5. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.
