8 safety recalls, most serious first
1. Engine
What's wrong, in plain English: Engine problems range from stalling to fire. The engine connecting rod bearings may become damaged, which can result in engine failure.
What could happen: A damaged engine can result in engine failure and a stall, increasing the risk of a crash. In addition, engine failure may cause an oil leak which can increase the risk of a fire.
The fix: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the engine, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 28, 2023. Owners may contact Volkswagen's customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 13i6.
What to do
- Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2024 ATLAS.
- Book a repair at any authorized Volkswagen dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 23V593000 (manufacturer code 13i6).
- The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.

- Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.
