What's wrong, in plain English: The rear camera may not show an image when reversing. The rearview camera screen may display a distorted or blank image.

What could happen: A rearview image that does not display correctly reduces the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

The fix: Dealers will inspect, and if necessary, replace the rearview camera, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 20, 2026. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is N262551720. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became sear…

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2025 MALIBU.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized Chevrolet dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 26V212000 (manufacturer code N262551720).
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Manufacturer hotline: 1-800-222-1020.
  5. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.
